First Day of Preschool

Katie on her first day of school - Jan 6, 2010

Today was Katie's first day of preschool. She's going to Kyle's preschool alma mater - Rainbow Montessori.

For weeks she's been talking about how excited she is to start school, and how she can't wait to paint, and color, and do school work just like Kyle. Tami and I both explained that she would be dropped off, and then picked up after nap time and she SEEMED totally fine with it.

I pulled up to the school at 8am and she immediately recognized it and didn't seem hesitant at all. She got out of the truck and walked with me to the front door of the school. She bravely entered the office, and then moved towards the classroom door. But as soon as she looked into the classroom and saw all of those kids and the two teachers, she ran behind my leg and started to cry...

I tried to remind her of all the cool stuff she would do. I walked her over to her new cubbie and helped her put her stuff away. I showed her toys. But nothing I did seemed to help, and after just a couple of minutes, the school's Director came over to help me out by giving her a big hug and carrying her away so I could leave.

Tami picked her up around 3:30pm and Katie was doing fine. Her teacher said she didn't cry for very long in the morning, but she was a little clingy throughout the day. She also said that Katie cried a little when she woke up from her nap because she sort of forgot where she was.

When I got home from work, Katie had nothing but good things to say about school. She even said she made some friends, but she already forgot everyone's name. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. If I recall correctly, it took Kyle about three days before he could be dropped off without any tears.
