Quickie Update

So Katelyn did move to full fledge crawling, but I notice that she is moving slower than Kyle did when he learned. He started crawling a couple weeks later than Katelyn, but once he got it he just took off like a bullet. I think Katelyn struggles a little more since 'girly' clothes aren't that condusive to crawling either. Her knees get caught up in the skirts or flounces of her clothing.

Kyle's imagination is getting bigger every week. He now has two imaginary bear friends, Coda and Keenai (sp?). Some of you may remember these two characters from Disney's Brother Bear movie. So really they are imaginary in the sense that they aren't really there, but he didn't come up with the characters on his own. Anyway, they go with him to Tumbling class, the dinner table, the bathtub, and also everyday play.

Kyle is also starting to skip his nap during the day. If I have him in the car going or returning from somehwere, he'll still fall asleep. But if I try to put him down in the afternoon and go through our little pre-nap routine, he just keeps coming out of his room afterward asking, "Is naptime over yet, Mom?" This happens about every 5 minutes 'til I give up. We used to set a timer and just tell him he had to stay in his room for an hour, and he was pretty good about not coming out too often and would usually fall asleep in the last ten or fifteen minutes, but now it is a hassle for me to keep him in his room the whole hour. The only plus side to this is that we can start putting him down for bed at 8pm and he's usually out really quickly. Jeff even said that last night Kyle fell asleep while he was reading the bedtime story, which has never, ever happened to either of us before. :o)

Movin' and a Groovin'

Katelyn is definitely getting around wherever she wants to go, now. We just put up the baby gates this last weekend since she doesn't stay on the giant towels and comforters we put out for her to crawl on anymore. Did I say crawl? She is almost there - my prediction last Saturday was that by this Saturday, the 9th, she will be a full fledged crawler. Even now, she still scoots a little but does get up and move maybe one or two crawl steps before collapsing on her belly to scoot, roll, or push herslef the rest of the way. Even as I write this paragraph, she has moved herslef a good three feet.

This has also made her extremely fussy, which I remember also happened with Kyle whenever he was accomplishing the final stages of a physical milestone (sitting, scooting, crawling, etc.).

Kyle is cracking me up every day with little things he says and all the new words he's using. The other day he kept telling me his train tracks were 'funky'. And he's starting to put objects together to make things. For instance, he had a plastic bracelet and a small rubber ball, so he held the ball in the center of the bracelet and proudly announced, "Look, Mom, I made Saturn!" Also, tonight at dinner he had pasta on his plate, and Jeff and I had long since left the table to start cleaning dishes and Kyle kept saying, "I don't know how to make a triangle for my boat." ??? We kept asking Kyle what boat, what was he talking about. I finally walked over to him and realized he was making a little noodle picture of a boat on the table. The triangle was the sail he was trying to put on the mast.

This afternoon, we were sitting and playing his favorite (and only) card game, which he calls Confetti. The rest of us know this enchanting game as 52 Card Pick-up. Yes, lucky me, watching Katelyn crawl around on the floor trying to guess how many minutes will go by before she starts fussing and crying to be picked up, all while my son throws a splatter of cards up in the air with glee and then demands it is time to pick them up (again). You know, I LOVE my kids and the opportunity to stay at home with them is priceless, but after ten rounds of "Confetti", and now balancing Katelyn on one knee while picking up cards, I long for a game of Scrabble or Stratego where I can actually dig into the cobwebbed corners of my mind to see if the gears are still turning.
